Living expenses

A single student requires about $A9,000-13,000per year for living expenses, including accommodation, food, local transport, telephone, gas/electricity, stationery, clothing and entertainment.
For married students, add approximately $A6,000 per year for your spouse and $A4,000 per year for each child. This does not include airfares and course fees. Full fees may also have to be paid for your dependants if they attend school in Australia.
Permission to gain employment in Australia depends on the type of visa issued and usually allows a student to work up to 20 hours a week. Temporary working arrangements for courses lasting more than six months are liable to taxation for earnings over $A5,400.
Part-time employment should not be regarded as a means of financing your studies in Australia.
